This car was in production between 1987 and 1994, and it was designed exclusively for the United Stated Postal Service. The reasons why Grumman won this huge contract of production was because this model is capable of an extremely long life (as the name suggests!), of an estimated 20 years of potential operation. It’s also very economical to operate, easy to handle even in tight spaces, and highly serviceable with low maintenance. In fact, the contract was supposed to last 24 years, but it was so good they extended it to 30 seven years ago!   Grumman llv photo - 4   For the car experts out there: The car has a right-handed driver's position. The assembly and body are made by Grumman, but the chassis was produced by General Motors. The front suspension, instrument cluster and powerplant (2.5L I-4 TBI "Iron Duke" and later the General Motors 2.2L I-4 iron block/aluminum head engine) are almost the same as those in the Chevrolet S-10 pickup model.   Grumman llv photo - 5   Even nowadays, the USPS still owns over 100.000 Grumman LLVs, most of which are close to the end of their lifespan, so they are looking into repairing them, and then slowly replacing them. But they most definitely did their job - for almost thirty years!     Grumman-llv-photo-4 Grumman-llv-photo-5 Grumman-llv-photo-6 Grumman-llv-photo-7 Grumman-llv-photo-8 Grumman-llv-photo-9 Grumman-llv-photo-10
